Knife Attack in Shahu Nagar: Ravindra Sitaram Bind Accused Granted Conditional Bail

Mumbai, April 8, 2022 (Greater Mumbai Sessions Court): The Additional Sessions Judge, Shri Purushottam B. Jadhav, presiding over Court Room No. 22 at the Sessions Court in Greater Mumbai, has granted conditional bail to Ravindra Sitaram Bind, the accused in Crime No. 32 of 2022 registered at the Shahu Nagar Police Station. The order, dated April 7, 2022, was issued after hearing arguments from both the defense and the prosecution.

The case against Bind stems from an incident alleged to have occurred on March 5, 2022, at approximately 2:00 p.m. According to the police report, the applicant, Ravindra Sitaram Bind, allegedly assaulted the first informant with a knife, while a co-accused reportedly abused and threatened the victims. Based on this report, an offence under Sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506(2) (criminal intimidation), read with Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered.

The prosecution, represented by Ld. A.P.P. Mr. Suryawanshi, strongly opposed the bail application. The Ld. A.P.P. argued that there was a possibility of the applicant repeating the offence and absconding. He also submitted that the victim was still undergoing medical treatment at Sion Hospital and urged the court to reject the bail application.

However, the court noted that while it was not disputed that the victim was receiving medical treatment, they were doing so as an outpatient and were not admitted to the hospital. The court also took into consideration that the applicant was arrested on March 5, 2022, and had been in custody since then. Furthermore, it was noted that the applicant had no prior criminal record, and there was no indication that he had attempted to tamper with any witnesses or destroy evidence. The court also observed that the co-accused in the same case had already been released on bail by the same court on March 23, 2022, in Criminal Bail Application No. 547/2022.

Considering these factors, Additional Sessions Judge Shri Purushottam B. Jadhav was of the opinion that it would be just and proper to grant conditional bail to the applicant.

Consequently, the court passed the following order:
